The practice

Nadi Swedana directs a focused stream of warm herbal steam to a single region of the body, classically following Abhyanga oil massage. The targeted warmth deepens the work of the oil, bringing suppleness and ease exactly where it is needed.

How it is used

  1. Prepare a warm herbal decoction and bring it to a gentle steam.
  2. Apply Thailam to the area to be treated, as in Abhyanga.
  3. Direct the steam toward the oiled area from a comfortable distance, keeping it pleasantly warm, never hot.
  4. Move steadily across the region for several minutes, observing the recipient's comfort.
  5. Wipe gently and keep the area warm and rested afterwards.
