Avarthy means a repetition. A 101 Avarthy oil is one that has been taken through the classical cooking process one hundred and one times, each round re-processing the oil with a fresh decoction so the preparation grows steadily more concentrated. What remains is used a few drops at a time rather than by the spoonful, and it is treated in classical Ayurveda as the most refined form a Thailam can take.
