The practice

The Gokarna is the classical brass vessel for Nasya Karma, the application of warm medicated oil through the nasal passages. The small size warms just enough oil for a single session and suits daily personal Nasya.

How it is used

  1. Stand the Gokarna in a bowl of warm water and let the medicated oil reach a comfortable, lukewarm temperature.
  2. Test the oil on the back of the hand before use.
  3. With the head tilted gently back, place two to three drops of oil into each nostril.
  4. Rest and breathe steadily for a moment, then sit up slowly.
  5. Wipe the spout, rinse the vessel and dry it after use.

Material & care

  • Wash with mild soap and warm water after each use, then dry completely.
  • Brass develops a natural patina over time; this is normal and does not affect use.
  • To restore the bright finish, polish gently with lemon and salt, then rinse and dry.
