The practice

Shirodhara is the signature ritual of Ayurveda: a steady, warm thread of Thailam poured slowly across the forehead, quieting the mind into deep rest. This stainless steel vessel keeps a consistent, regulated flow and stands up to intensive daily use in professional practice.

How it is used

  1. Suspend the vessel a hand's width above the forehead of the resting recipient.
  2. Fill with comfortably warm Thailam, classically Ksheerabala or Brahmi Thailam.
  3. Open the flow to a fine, unbroken thread falling on the centre of the forehead.
  4. Sweep the stream slowly from temple to temple for twenty to forty-five minutes, keeping the oil warm.
  5. Close the flow, wipe the forehead and allow a long, quiet rest.

Material & care

  • Wash with warm water and a mild soap; dry completely.
  • Stainless steel may be cleaned thoroughly between recipients, suited to clinic use.
  • Check the flow opening regularly and keep it free of residue.
