The best Ayurvedic face oil depends on what your skin needs. Unlike modern cosmetic oils, traditional Ayurvedic face oils are prepared by infusing herbs into a base oil over several days - a process that creates something far more complex than a simple carrier oil.
Kumkumadi Thailam is the most celebrated Ayurvedic face oil. Made with saffron and precious herbs, it's traditionally used for overall skin radiance and nourishment. If you want one oil that does it all, Kumkumadi is the classic choice. It works for most skin types and is particularly lovely as an evening ritual oil.
Nalpamaradi Thailam takes a different approach. This golden-yellow oil features turmeric and fig tree extracts, traditionally used to support a brighter, more even-looking complexion. If skin brightness is your focus, Nalpamaradi is worth exploring.
Eladi Thailam offers something gentler. With cardamom and cooling herbs, this formula is traditionally recommended for sensitive or reactive skin types. It's lighter than Kumkumadi and has a more subtle, pleasant aroma.
When choosing, consider your primary goal. For general nourishment and radiance, start with Kumkumadi. For brightness and clarity, try Nalpamaradi. For sensitive skin or if you prefer lighter formulas, Eladi is a good match.
You can also consider the format. Traditional Thailams are richer oils best used at night. Lighter serums based on these formulas absorb faster and work well for daytime use or under makeup.
Whatever you choose, look for authentic preparations made using traditional methods. The difference between a properly prepared Thailam and a simple herb-infused oil is significant - both in texture and in results.
